What is Age of Conan?
Age of Conan is a mature rated MMORPG which means it has some nudity and lots of violence, unlike other MMOs which are generally rated for 13 and above. We hope that this keeps some of the immature noobs out of the game but unfortunately it is almost certain some will sneak in anyways.
What makes Age of Conan different from other MMORPGs?
There are a few things that are new to this game type in AOC. First, the combat system is not free-style like WoW but more like EQ2. There is no autoattack feature, instead you get directional melee attack moves that youc an use to strike an enemies weak side depending on where they are emphasizing the majority of their guard which is indicated by blinking arrows while in combat. You can also play defensive and shift your shielding and defenses to the direction the enemy is attacking you from. Also, most of your special attacks and abilities will require you to follow up with a combo directional attack. We are not sure how AoC players will like this yet. The interactiveness of the combat system keeps the user more active than an autoattack feature but it is extremely repetitive and takes up a lot of hot keys.
What is the same in Age of Conan as other MMORPGs?
The first thing that is apparent is questing. The yellow exclamation point made famous by World of Warcraft has been brought back and there is in in-game direcitonal quest helper to make it even easier. Also, when you hit level 10 you will be able to place "Feat" points into three different trees, sound familiar?
How is the PvP gameplay in AoC?
The Player Versus Player aspect of Age of Conan is almost non-existant...oh it exists, but there's no purpose to it. There are no factions, no good or evil, you can just kill anyone that you want. So far at the lower levels it is absolutely horrible and confusing, especially if you are fighting some enemies it's hard to even tell that you are engaged in PvP. We are hoping they revamp the entire PvP system or just remove it all together.
How is the PVE aspect of Age of Conan?
We have a strong feeling that PvE could have some potential in the game. You are able to solo to level 80 if you want which makes the game extremely easy like wow. In old games like Everquest you couldn't solo efficient at all and had to group all the way up to the max level. Why companies keep creating a multiplayer online game that rarely requires you to group with other players is beyond me. Due to the fact that Feat points work in the same fashion as talent points where you gain 1 skill point every level the end-game is going to take a hit and you may find yourself only pursuing gear at max level and having it replaced everytime an expansion comes out like World of Warcraft. There isn't much room for permanent progression in this game with the way they have it structured.
