What are Inscriptions?
Scribes are going to create Glpyhs which are attached to characters and augment abilities. You will be able to change the characteristics of a spell to enhance its damage, cooldown, or the effects it has.
How do I use Glyphs?
Each player will be given a new page in their spell book where they can store up to 6 glyps, 4 major and 2 minor. Obviously, minor glyphs will be minor enchancements and major will be major enhancements to a spell or ability and each player will be limited in the number of enhancements he/she can do.
Will I be able to make inscriptions without purchasing the Wrath of the Lich King expansion?
Players who own The Burning Crusade Expansion will be able to level Inscription to level 375 along with the other tradeskills to 375. Players with Wrath of the Lich King will be able to level it all the way to 450. This is expected to go live sometime in late September or early October.

The following information is being updated from the latest beta releases. I will continualy monitor the recipes (hopefully with your help) to ensure this guide is the most up to date guide available. At the time of writing, all other inscription guides contain outdated information and poor estimates. Please use Add Comment to help me keep this up to date.
Glpyhs You will notice the Glyphs that I choose are only 1 of several options or I simply say "craft the best Glyph available". This means you're going to need to decide which Glpyh is the most efficient to craft. You should craft the widest variety of Glyphs possible and sell them or put them in your Guild Bank. Try to craft only orange leveled Glyphs unless yellow ones are significantly less materials.
Milling gives you 1-3 Pigments and appears to still be subject to modifications to tweak Inscription. For all the values below I assumed 2-3 pigments for every 5 herbs. Here are the Herbs and associated Pigments:
[Alabaster Pigment] level 1-10 herbs: Bloodthistle, Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot, and Mageroyal
[Dusky Pigment] level 10-20 herbs: Briarthorn, Swiftthistle, Bruiseweed, and Stranglekelp
[Golden Pigment] level 20-30 herbs: Wild Steelbloom, Grave Moss, Kingsblood, and Liferoot
[Emerald Pigment] level 30-40 herbs: Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar's Whiskers, and Wintersbite
[Violet Pigment] level 40-50 herbs: Firebloom, Purple Lotus, Arthas' Tears, Sungrass, Blindweed, Ghost Mushroom, and Gromsblood
[Silvery Pigment] level 50-60 herbs: Golden Sansam, Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage, Plaguebloom, and Icecap
[Nether Pigment] level 60-70 herbs: Felweed, Ancient Lichen, Dreaming Glory, Flame Cap, Mana Thistle, Netherbloom, Nightmare Vine, Ragveil, and Terocone
[Azure Pigment] level 70-80 herbs: All Northrend Herbs. So far: Tiger Lily and Goldclover
What should I stock up on / need for Inscription? It is going to be a huge pain to level Inscription once Wrath comes out, unless you're prepared. You will need about the following herbs to make it to through levels 1-400.
1-35 (Alabaster Pigment -> Ivory Ink) If you make exactly 18 Ivory Inks you'll be at least level 17 and be able to make Scrolls of Intellect until 35. The required 18 Alabaster Pigment will only take 2 stacks of lvl 1-10 herbs to mill.
35-75 (Alabaster Pigment -> Moonglow Ink) You will need 4-5 more stacks of level 1-10 herbs to make enough Alabaster Pigment to make at least 21 Moonglow Ink and level to 75 making additional Armor Vellum.
** You should make a few extra Moonglow Ink to craft Minor Inscription Research (20 hour cooldown) at level 75.

75-100 (Dusky Pigment -> Midnight Ink) You will need 4-5 stacks of level 10-20 herbs (ie Bruiseweed) to get the 40 Dusky Pigment needed to create 20 Midnight Ink. Use the ink to level from 80-100 making any Glyphs that will garantee a level (orange colored.)
100-125 (Golden Pigment -> Lion's Ink) You will need at least 60 Lion's Ink to get to level 150, make 65 to be safe. This will require 130 Golden Pigment which you'll need to mill through 12-15 stacks of level 20-30 herbs (ie Kingsblood). Craft Glyphs from 105-125.
125-130 (Burnt Pigment -> Dawnstar Ink) Make as much Dawnstar Ink as you can. If you don't get to 130 create more Glpyhs using extra Lion's Ink.
130-150 Continue making the best Glyphs available until 150.

Keep an eye out for extra Indigo Pigment from your milling to make Royal Ink and Arcane Tarots to save some time and money.

300-350 (Nether Pigment -> Ethereal Ink) You will need 110 Nether Pigment which will require milling through 12-13 stacks level 60-70 herbs (ie Felweed). However, Glyph of Whirlwind will probably be changed to require 2 Ethereal Inks before release, so you might want to make extra.

350-450 (Azure Pigment -> Ink of the Sea) From here to 450 all we can do is speculate. The materials required for the Glyphs that are currently implemented will likely be changed. I would estimate you'll need 10-15 stacks of herbs for the next 50 levels, then another 10-15 stacks for levels 400-450. It's also likely there will be another less dependable requirement to reach level 450. Since we can't start collecting Goldclover and Tiger Lily just yet, gather extra Felweed to get as far past 350 as you can.
