Arming a rouge with a sword and a dagger

I am a rogue carrying a sword and a dagger. Which one should I carry in my main hand (I'm assuming the right hand is the main hand)? Any pluses or minuses to doing it one way or the other?

Thanks!

You definitely want the slower weapon (most likely the sword) in your main hand because it does all the big hits. Put a dagger (usually the faster weapon) in your off hand, it does all the fast burst damage and applies poisons quicker.

Im not sure, but i would place the dagger in main hand. Then u can use more attacks, like ambush, backstab and theres probably more actions needed dagger in main.

You wont often be behind the target unless someone is tanking it for you.

So Backstab will be rendered useless.

very easy in pvp but yes you should be combat spec for leveling with slow sword mh (main hand) fast oh (off hand) since you will almost never be behind your target unless you wanna make an ambush macro with a /equip your sword at the end.

I play Rogue and actually carry 2 Daggers and 2 Swords, The best thing to do is set up a macro that will change your weapons for you on the fly.
This is one of the macro's I use:
_________________________________________________________________

/equipslot [stealth, equipped:Sword] 16 Jaedenis Dagger of the Boar
/cast Shadowstep
/cast ambush
/equipslot [nostealth,equipped:Dagger] 16 Sword of Zeal

________________________________________________________________
Just change the names of the weapons for the ones you are using.
This gives you the better attacks of the dagger and the (usually)higher DPS of the sword.
While I am on the subject of macros here is a beautiful backstab macro (this is very good for PVE/Instances, for PVP remove the "Feint":
_________________________________________________________________

/equipslot [nostealth, equipped:Sword] 16 Jaedenis Dagger of the Boar
/castsequence reset=6 Backstab(Rank 7), Feint(Rank 4), Backstab(Rank 7),Backstab(Rank 7),Backstab(Rank 7),Backstab(Rank 7)

_________________________________________________________________
You DONT have to have the rank on the macro, but I happen to have it on mine, so if you choose to use this macro, make sure your macro reflects the correct rank of your attack.
I have alot more macros, but I think the one that I use the 2nd most, in PVP at least (following the Shadowstep macro) would be my "Hemorrage" macro. Because the weapon does NOT matter for hemorrage I left out the equip weapon part of the macro:
_________________________________________________________________

/castsequence reset=6 ghostly strike, hemorrhage, hemorrhage, hemorrhage, hemorrhage, hemorrhage

_________________________________________________________________
You will notice that the 1st attack in this sequence is not actually Hemorrhage but is Ghostly strike, this is because in PVP that little bit of Evasion that the Ghostly Strike gives can save your life.
I know this goes a bit further than the OP Question of which weapon is better for main hand, the answer is, it depends on your playing style...but in MY opinion, it is both.
I hope this helps someone.

Slow weapon in the main hand, fast weapon in the offhand. Also, if you want to use ambush (which requires a dagger in your mainhand) use Titan Panels Stance equipment switcher or some similar addon.
