Raid Warrior Tanking

Class: Warrior
Role: Tanking
Tree: Hybrid
Points: 5/11/55
Patch:
150

This is a no-nonsense tanking build that has worked very well for my 80 warrior (which is progressing in ICC 10).

The biggest deviation I've gone from the norm Warrior tanking build is to delve deep into fury's shouts rather than arms' improved bleeds and crits.

Personally, I find that Improved Demoralizing Shout and Piercing Howl are much more effective tools for keeping aggro than anything else Arms has to offer - especially on mobs.

One of the most important parts of this build is the built-in mitigation. Deflection 5/5 (5% parry), Anticipation 5/5 (5% dodge) and Shield Specialization 5/5 (5% block, get rage when you block dodge or parry) are all very important. A warrior's greatest strength is in being naturally tough - don't underestimate those mediocre-looking talents. Also remember that you need to block/dodge/parry to activate the 10% damage buff from Improved Defensive stance.

Everything I have not placed in the Protection tree you don't need - not really. You can't always use Improved Disarm, you don't need the extra rage from Improved Bloodrage, you don't need the rage from Puncture, and you don't need the Improved Disciplines (you're only going to ever use Shield Wall). And, in reality, Intervene is rarely used (due to its range limitations).

The aggro rotation is simple: spam Thunder Clap and Demoralizing Shout. Do piercing howl and taunt if you start to lose aggro. Spam Devastate/Revenge/Shield slam. Pop you Shockwave every 20 seconds.

Damage reduction rotation is also simple: shield block once a minute. Spam shockwave, concussion blow, and heroic throw.

After that just remember that tanks need to be able to adapt to the situation. Rotations are useless if you can't adjust them as necessary on the spur of the moment.
