Warlock Talent Guide - Demonology

If you're looking for a very in depth and professional Warlock Guide check out this guide, they have a pro Warlock Guide that covers just about everything in much greater detail than I will cover here.

The basic idea of this is not to build a better warlock, but to build a better pet for the warlock. The more damage your pet can deal and the less he can take; the less health and mana you will use. This will allow you to stay out playing and leveling longer between breaks.

From what I have seen and played, the Demonology build is by far the best way to go with a warlock. The tricky part is determining where to put the talent points you receive at each new level. The reason is that it can get quite expensive to continually redo your talent points. I will give you some ideas on where you might want to put them.

Levels 1-49

You will want to put your first five talent points into affliction branch of the talent tree, under improved corruption. Doing this will make your corruption spell instant cast. From here, use the chart below to determine where to put the remaining points into the demonology branch of the talent tree.

-Improved Health Stone-2/2
-Demonic Embrace-5/5
-Improved Voidwalker-3/3
-Fel Intellect-3/3
-Fel Domination-1/1
-Fel Stamina-3/3
-Demonic Aegis-2/3
-Master Summoner-2/2
-Unholy Power-5/5
-Demonic Sacrifice-1/1
-Master Demonologist-5/5
-Demonic Knowledge-3/3

Levels 50+

At level 50 things change a bit for the warlock. Since release of The Burning Crusades, a warlock now has the ability to summon a Felguard. The Felguard is quite possibly the most brutal of all pets in World of Warcraft. The first thing you will need to do is see your warlock trainer and unlearn your talents. This will cost you a little bit, but will be worth it. You will now have to go into your talent tree and reposition all of your talent points. I will show you how to do this to obtain your Felguard at level 50.

-Improved Health Stone-2/2
-Demonic Embrace-5/5
-Improved Voidwalker-3/3
-Fel Intellect-3/3
-Fel Domination-1/1
-Fel Stamina-3/3
-Demonic Aegis-2/3
-Master Summoner-2/2
-Unholy Power-5/5
-Demonic Sacrifice-1/1
-Master Demonologist-5/5
-Demonic Knowledge-3/3
-Demonic Tactics-5/5
-Summon Felguard-1/1

After this is complete, I would recommend putting your next five talent points back into affliction under improved corruption. This will allow you to regain your instant cast corruption spell.

Warlock Minions

We’ve talked about the builds to use, now let me give you a brief description of the warlock pets you will receive. At level one you will need to find your warlock trainer. He should be in the first town you come to. This is where you will receive your quests to get all of your pets up to level 30. Next to the warlock trainer will be a demon trainer. This is where you can train your pet’s new skills.

The Imp

The first pet you receive is the imp. He’s a funny looking demon that likes to talk a lot of trash. The imp, like you, cannot withstand a lot of damage, but his firebolt spell is quite good at dealing dps (damage per second) at these low levels. The good thing from the imp at the higher levels is his blood pact spell, which increases the total stamina (health) of you and any party members.

The Voidwalker

You will get the quest for your voidwalker at level 10. The voidwalker is quite opposite of the imp. He doesn’t deal a lot of dps, but can withstand a lot. His most important spell is his torment spell. This spell is designed to hold aggro (keep mob attacking him). This is a wonderful thing for the warlock build.

The Succubus

At level 20 you get the quest for your succubus. There are a couple of good things to the succubus. One, she can deal decent dps and the other is her seduction spell. This spell will help you with tricky pulls (trying to get one mob when two or more are close together). She can simply seduce one so you can focus your attack on the other one.

The Felhunter

The felhunter you will be able to quest for at level 30. The felhunter, or felpuppy as it is affectionately known, is mainly designed to go up against other casters. It comes with spells like spell lock, which literally locks them from casting anything. It also has a spell to drain mana. You will find this guy very helpful in zones full of casters.

The Felguard

The felguard is pretty much what everything has been working up to. He is by far the best of any pet you will receive. He takes the goods from both the voidwalker and succubus, to create your own personal warrior (tank). He deals some awesome dps and at the same time can hold agro. You won’t be disappointed.

Summary

By using the builds that I have shown you, you should be better suited for the various zones and mobs you will come in contact with your warlock. What I can tell you is that the voidwalker will be your best pet most of the time, until you reach level 50. At that point, no explanation needed, the felguard will now be your best friend. Now enjoy and go destroy lots of mobs with your warlock.
